Ideal Weight Calculator
Estimate a reference body weight based on height and sex using the Devine formula. Results are estimates, not personal medical targets.
Your Estimated Reference Weight
The lower and upper figures are illustrative values calculated as 90% and 110% of the Devine estimate. They are not a validated healthy-weight range or a personalized medical recommendation.
What Is an Ideal Weight Calculator?
An ideal weight calculator estimates a reference body weight from height and a formula-specific sex category. There is no single perfect weight for everyone. Health, body composition, muscle mass, age and other individual factors all matter.
How Is Ideal Weight Calculated?
This calculator uses the Devine formula. It converts height into inches and estimates a reference weight using the portion of height above five feet.
Devine Formula
For males: 50 kg + 2.3 kg for each inch over 5 feet.
For females: 45.5 kg + 2.3 kg for each inch over 5 feet.
For heights at or below five feet, this calculator uses the formula's base value. The result is a mathematical estimate, not a diagnosis or a treatment target.
Example Calculation
For a male with a height of 175 cm, the height is approximately 68.9 inches. That is about 8.9 inches above five feet. Applying the Devine formula gives a reference weight of approximately 70.5 kg. This is an example only, not a recommended target for every person of that height.
Ideal Weight vs. BMI
Ideal body weight and body mass index (BMI) are different measurements. This calculator estimates a reference weight from height, while BMI uses height and actual weight to calculate an index. Neither measure alone fully describes a person's health.

Ideal Weight Calculator FAQs
What is ideal body weight?
Ideal body weight is a reference estimate produced by a formula. It is not necessarily the best or healthiest weight for every individual.
Is ideal weight the same for everyone?
No. Body composition, muscle mass, age and overall health can affect what weight is appropriate for an individual.
How accurate is this calculator?
The calculator applies the Devine formula consistently, but the formula is a general estimate. It cannot determine an individual's personal health or exact healthy weight.
What do the lower and upper estimates mean?
They are calculated as 90% and 110% of the formula result to show a broader illustrative range. They are not a medically validated healthy-weight interval.
Can I use this calculator for children?
This tool is intended as a general reference for adults. Children's growth and weight are assessed using age- and sex-specific growth charts by qualified healthcare professionals.
